Did I loose or gain ?

Last weekend we were watching Soloman paapaiya’s Diwali Pattimanram on YOU TUBE
I enjoy Mr.Paapaiya’s pattimanram from childhood and like the chocolate coated facts delivered in his verdict. The topic was ‘Did the young generation loose more or gain more’ !
2 young faces were in the team along with other veterans. The new guy Seshadiri, a young s/w engineer probably working out of OMR, Chennai stole the entire applause from the audience and of course me -! Speaking about Seshadiri , he is a casual and humorous speaker who can keep the audience interested. He made me ROFL when he mentioned abt NRI’s – “Diwaliku Oru bijili vedi vedikka vakkillai, New yearku cake vetti clientku ottran. Inthutan nanaga USku poi flag natta perumaiya??’ Some of the facts he told about our current life style is so true. Swaroop and I always compared our life with our parents and will wonder how happy and relaxed the life used to be when we were young with limited financial benefits. Our moms will be home smiling to receive us from school and make hot Tiffin’s and coffee for snack. We will play with neighbor kids and then catchup with home works. Dad will come home before the 7pm news and we’ll lineup for dinner and watch TV. Life was simple and parents were not tensed as we are at the age of 30!
Seshadiri also mentioned that we have lot of friends in Orkut and facebook. Arimugam irruku anal aravanaipu illai. WOW! That’s so true Seshu!
How many times did I see or talk to my family or friends? We call our parents once or twice a week and occasionally mail or chat with friends. It would usually be a group mail or an update about something that happened in my life recently. But, I’m glad I can at least tell my friends where I’m, how I’m. My social skills have completely vanished. I just noticed that it’s been ages I visited /invited friends. Life is too complicated and busy, every minute left in the clock becomes precious and I want it for myself and my husband and my kid. I do look back at my tension-free childhood, but I’m getting tuned to my new life style. It’s busy but I need to run with it. If I don’t, I will be the loser.
My relatives are extremely upset when we ignore the Mama’s 60th birthdays, Athhai’s 25th anniversary, cousin’s daughter in law’s brother’s wedding, namakaram, etc .. But where is the time and interest? Why would someone who works like a bull 5 days a week, sacrifice a Sunday’s nap, wake up at 6, get the entire family dressed up and drive all the way in to the city traffic for 2 hrs and eat Idli vada pongal, chit chat and listen to all the gossip ..who bought which jewelry, who purchased the new house, etc . Instead I would love to wake up at 10, make my kid’s favorite breakfast, eat leisurely and listen to a light music, clean the house and take him out to a park, chat over tea with my husband. I do like to attend family ceremonies but I want the liberty to choose which one I want to attend given my other personal priorities.
Coming back to the pattimanram, Mr.Paapaiya concluded that the younger generation did lose a lot over what they gained. It’s not the generations’ fault. Instead of complaining or cursing them, as an elderly person in the family, let’s regret for what they lost and over the fact how materialistic they are forced to be. Hope the elder generation took the gist of his speech and will respect our thoughts and time
BTW, to improve my social skill, we visited friends and family for Thanksgiving and had fun !

My Daily Vitamins

Recently I have been diagonsed with Vitamin D and Iron deficiency! My doc has prescribed me super strong high dosed supplements to keep up my energy levels up..
Last evening, when I reached home picking Saahas, I was completely beaten up. I wish I had something to charge me up again. I gave him a glass of milk and started chopping the veggies for pasta. He took a sip and remembered that he forgot to eat his gummie bear in the morning. I said 'Drink your milk first when it's warm. Then you can eat your gummie bear'. It's a child proof bottle and he can't open it. He said 'please open the bottle ... PLEASE open it ..PLEASE open it ...PLEASE OPEN IT'..
Even my tension level were not rising up ... I'm a dead meat by 7pm . I took the gummie bear bottle and pretended to read from the supplement facts ' Look Saahas .. It's written .. Do not eat in empty stomach. Eat it after milk. You better drink your milk'
Saahas snatched the bottle from me and pretended to read from the same section 'DO NOT LISTEN TO YOUR MOMMY. EAT this immediately'
Do I need any additional supplements for the rest of the day ??? :-))

Couple days back I was asking him to read the books that I picked from the library.. He picked 3 of it and sat down in a corner and scanned them left to right ... and said 'I'm done' ... It's all Enthiran effect ...What will Saahas be when he is 14 ? My head is spinning

My Lost Earring

I was stepping inside the bus to get dropped to Central London office and noticed my left earring was missing. I remember I had both early this morning while while checking at the car mirror. The bus was ready to leave in another 2 minutes and had no time to look for the missing one. It was the longest ever earring I have worn so far that I got for myself from the Italy trip.
I did not want to remove the other one and covered my ears with my short hair. After reaching Central London office, I went straight off to a meeting. A weird idea came to my mind. Why don’t I remain all day with one ear ring and see if anyone notices!

Minutes passed Hours passed. Meeting after meeting and not a single soul noticed my missing earring. What’s really going around with my colleagues? Haan?? People don’t notice me? Don’t they really care what I wear?
I returned to my base office with a sunken heart and learnt that a friend of mine had found the missing pair near my desk. While collecting it from her, the news spread around the ladies friends at work. One of them commented ‘You were just promoting Angelina Jolie’s style at work’ and showed me Angie’s picture at Benjamin Button Premiere with One earring!
May be I’m convinced now :-)

AVATAR - An unbelievable experience

Just returned home after watching AVATAR at the wimbledon IMAX theatre. Wanted to share my experience when they are still fresh in my mind ..sorry heart. Remembering Dr.Grace's (Sigourney Weaver) advice to Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) to videotape his feelings when they are still green! I just chose to see a movie this weekend for no good reason - plenty of free time since my family moved back to India with 4 straight days of christmas holidays.

I dont want to narrate the story and want the person who is reading this to experience the movie in his/her own style. I do like fairy tales but honestly not a great fan of Harry Porter, Lord of the Rings or Narnia. The first version of all these movies fascinated me for various techniques but I was not really carried away by any. They were just movies like a passing cloud. Today, it was a different experience.

Along with Jake Sully the director makes everyone in the theatre enter the world of Pandora and be one among the Na'vis. Every tiny creature in the Pandora world is bond with love and striving for the survival of their mother nature. If Beauty lies in the beholder's eyes, Neytiri is the most beautiful lady I ever saw. The truth and the vigour in her eyes bonds us with her magical world. I could never call it a fictitious movie : The concept of Incarnation, portrayal of 'the Navi's' with the expressive yellow eyes, creation of the Avatars with blue bodies, bow and arrow and a tilak on fore head (I found it only for Jake) was unbelievingly impressive. After my 2.30 hr bonding with the movie, neither the cutting edge technologies nor the big budget mattered to me.

All that mattered was 'We killed our Mother earth' and my thirst for the green world begins...

Counting Made Easy

Can anything be more fun than observing a toddler's development. I once read it on baby center that a toddler's brain is like a sponge. Absorbs as much as it could. It is really exciting to see my lil one come up with ideas as a outcome of various things he hear, look and feel.

Last evening he was scribbling (bite me !!! Actually painting) with his pen and brush and started drawing circles. He came to me and said "Mommy … I drew London eye" !!! Gr8 ! Good observation I encouraged (we took him to London eye last weekend)

Then he drew zig zag lines vertically and said " Mommy this is steps" and started walking on the drawing sheet .. hahhaha …"Funny" , I said.

Understanding he is at his best mood I said 'Let me teach you to write 'A' and said, 'Down to up and up to down …and then a line in the middle'. He liked the rhyme and dint get the writing well. I dint push and said "ok , keep trying!"

Then he wrote number '1' and yelled "I wrote 1". That's great and asked him to write number '2'. After thinking for a less than a second he wrote another 1 and said '1 1 Mommy ..it's 2' CHEATTTTTTTT … couldn't control my laugh. When I told this to my fren she said
'Probably he is learning Roman first'
You never know what is in that teeny tiny brain. Don't you??

Flawless Planning

It's been almost 3 weeks since we went out anywhere ..probably couple of visits to grocery shops, hospital and day care. Saahas was really upset about this and we knew it! We are avoiding the mall play area due to his wheezing and last week's illness. This morning he was too cranky and all I heard was 'NO' for everything ....I was completely exhausted by noon and my hubby suggested to take him to the library. the lil one over heard our conversation and from then was too good, did whatever I said. I felt he is really ready to get out! It takes twice the time to get ready in winter with extra layered clothes, mittens, jackets, scarf and a cap. Dressing up a hyper kid took me thrice the usual time. When I was abt to leave the door "Mommy Poo Poo " Alright ........ change diaper ... repeat the process ...get to the door... walk to the car.. start to drive in a heap of snow. Exactly after 1 min I turn and ask ' what are u planning to do in library?' I hear nothing ... hello ....nothing ... then I hear a snore .... my god ....pls dun sleep ... No response ..snoring even more louder ....my mind thot in 100 angles, made a U turn, went back to the garage thinking I will put him in bed and get back to my exam prep (really lagging behind so much). the lil slept on my shoulders and I felt I made the perfect decision of coming back. The put him in the bed , got changed and took a sip of water ...I heard him in the bedroom ...just peeped in and said ' Sleep baby' ... Godddd he was sooooo angry with lots of tears "LIBRARYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY" he dint stop ..I told him what happened ... he stopped crying , listened till I finished and said "LIBRARYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY" I want to go to LIBRARY
It took me hours to convince and atlast cailou(DVD) helped me calm him. I used to get paid for planning projects worth millions and I was laughing in my head. The DVD effect started fading slowly and I heard the same song again ...... pls gimme a break :-(((
I managed till swaroop returned, we had early dinner and started to library (same mittens, jacket blah blah blah ...) he slept in the car .........grhhhhhh Is this some kinda joke ? He was sleeping all the way, dint realize we were in library ...I decided to get some reading and chose a calm place.. The lil one snored so heavily lying in the stroller..few heads kept turning towards me. Poor baby, his nostrils are still blocked. Embarrased I gave up my reading and went to the kids area and waited for him to awake ...He woke up after 40 mins. Good! I let him pick the books and read him 5 stories. It was 9 the lights were off ... he still wanted to read ....I promised I will take him again . He said ' I will not sleep' ! That was unexpected and funny ....and made me forget all the trouble he gave me!

Lessons Learned: If you promise something, do it no matter what it takes! He is not a kid anymore to distract him with a lil sticker and change topics.
